26 weeks

Baby girl is 6 months old!!!!!!
She can 100% sit up on her own, she scoots her bum forward while sitting to get closer to toys, she scoots multiple feet backwards while laying on her belly and is able to push herself up onto her knees while laying on her belly!  She is growing so fast!  She also, for the very first time, grabbed her bottle out of my hand and shoved it into her mouth!  She is constantly blowing raspberries and it is so cute!  The little stinker is also 'coughing' for attention, that little thing.

She is making so many more range of sounds and noises.  From grunts and low growl type sounds to sweet soft humming sing-song sounds.  It is adorable!  She constantly laughs and smiles.

She went to the dr for her 6 month well check.  She gained 1.3 pounds since she was there for her cold!  She now weighs 15 pounds, 3 oz and is 25 3/8 inches long.  She is now in the 50% for weight!  That made me so happy that she is growing and healthy!  God has given us such a gift in having a healthy little girl!

The dr seemed really pleased with her growth and development.  He almost seemed shocked that she could sit up on her own unassist by us and even her hands.  He even said she 'looked like trouble' so we should start baby proofing now because she will likely be crawling before we bring her in for her next well check.

This last week, her amazing sleep schedule has changed a bit.  She has started 'whining' every hour or so after I put her to bed at 8.  Initially, I thought it was because she was too cold (if it gets to 66, she will cry because she is too cold) but it was 68 and that is usually fine for her.  (We like to keep it at 70 though).  The temp wasn't it.  Then, while looking like she was in deep sleep, would start screaming in a way I've never heard.  We then thought she might be having nightmares.  I held her little body and she went back to sleep.  The exact same thing happened the next night, then the next.  I stopped picking her up and would just cup her little cheek in my hand until she would fall asleep-- but I had to go in there at least 3 times!  The last night, I ended up sleeping in Zoe's bed-- I think she could sense my presence and she ended up sleeping sound.

We talked to the dr about this.  She said this is classic for 6 month olds to change their sleep patterns.  They become more needy, more aware of surroundings and more aware that mama and daddy are not with them.  She is fussing because she wakes a bit and realizes she is alone, so she wants us with her.  He said not to feed or pick her up because that is like eating a big mac while being snuggled in a warm cozy bear hug.  'Don't do it.' Or she'll be doing it on purpose EVERY NIGHT!

She is testing the boundaries and while we do not let her 'cry it out' is has been turning into some loooong nights.  Last night, after realizing that she is just fine, just being needy, she woke every hour on the hour.  I ended up lying in Zoe's bed after the 3rd wake up at 11p and just kept talking to her, telling her it was okay, when she fussed.  She wasn't 'crying' just loud fussing.  It seemed to work for awhile.  At 2 am the fussing turned into actual crying so I did pick her up because that did sound like her hungry cry.  It had been 6 hours since she last ate, so I figured that could be it.  She ate quite a bit but didn't seem tired!  It was 3am and I really really wanted her to fall back asleep! Ahhh!  I shhhh'd her and put her back on and she nursed herself back to sleep.  Thankfully she fell back asleep and slept until 6:30 in the morning.

I pray!!! we get this resolved to where she feels comforted and safe when she wakes up and is able to calm herself back to sleep. I am debating tonight to try having her sleep unswaddled so she can grab onto her wooby or bear to help comfort her.  Or even sleep on her side or belly for comfort.  Since we are going into the weekend, this could give us 2 nights to try it out and maybe by Sunday night, she will be used to comforting herself back to sleep.  That is the plan.

I am so enjoying each phase of her development.  Just when I think things couldn't get any better, she does something so profound and it touches my heart in such a way that I never thought was possible!  I love being a mama to this amazing little person.  She just started giving 'kisses' this week.  Ahhh... so amazing.  She will open her drolly drippy little mouth and shove it into your cheek or onto your lips.  It is so sweet.  So wonderful!!  Heather said she even started doing it to her too!:)
