23 weeks

I had my previously scheduled ultrasound this afternoon at 3:00pm.  Luckily, even though Dave had an appointment with a Dr. in Findlay today and was not feeling well, he was able to go with me.  I was a little nervous in case we found out something was wrong with the heart or other organs, etc.  But excited too to see our baby!:)

In the waiting room, Dave asked me, "So, do you want to find out?"  This is hilarious because this man has been dead set on waiting!:o)  I told him 50/50.  We discussed and prayed right there in the waiting room that if finding out would not go against God's glory, we would find out.  Through prayer, we both were given the same realization-- that this is God's child-- he has given this baby to us as a gift to grow and nurture and raise in his image and to glorify him.  God has always known what gender this baby is, even before either of us were born.

We decided we were going to find out!:o)

In the ultrasound room, the tech asked if we wanted to know and immediately I said, 'yes!  we want to find out!':)    The moment she got the baby's image on the screen, the medical student whispered, 'it's a girl' to the tech.  I didn't know what to think since the baby was only on the screen for about half a second.:)  She looked at the heart, which had all chambers.  Then we went to find baby's parts:)  Clear as day, as Dave put it, a shot as if looking up from the toilet, you saw in between the little legs and saw our baby is a little girl!!!

WE'RE HAVING A GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She also commented on how big the thighs were:o)  The tech then said, the reason the medical student said it was a girl before checking was because she was playing with her feet in a fetal position with her bottom up in the air-- she said only girls do that and play with their feet!:)  I cried when she said we're having a girl-- it was so emotional and moving.  I was so happy and excited.  I looked at Dave and he held my hand- he was so happy too!

The tech continued to scan all her organs (bladder, kidneys), said she did not have a cleft lip or palate and said her size is 'perfect'!  She already weighs 1.5 pounds!:)  She commented again on her thighs, saying, 'they really are big!'  She's going to be an athlete!!  She asked when I started feeling her kick and I said 14 weeks and Dave could feel them at 18 weeks.  She said that is extremely early and it must be because of her strong legs! :)  That made Dave really happy!  The medical student also said her facial features were very fine and cute.  One shot from the front, the baby looked to have Dave's chin, Zoe's features, but elongated like me.  SO EXCITING!!!!

After that appointment, we met with Dr. Kanios.  She was very kind, as always, and said she really didn't have a concrete answer as to why I was bleeding and cramping.  She thinks possibly it could have been my placenta detaching from the uterine wall and filling the cervix up with blood, then dilating a bit to release the old blood.  She said that usually doesn't happen until the third trimester, but it could have happened this time.  I am to call immediately if this happens again.  But, she excitedly said, the baby is healthy and great!:o)  Which is truly all that matters, but I am glad she is very proactive.  She did a physical exam and did some cultures to see if there is any bacteria or yeast that could be contributing to the bleeding.  I bled for 5 days and stopped on Wednesday.  The cramping has remained, but very infrequent.  I am to call Monday to get the results.

We inquired about blood typing and since I am O+ and Dave is O-, we are fine.  It would only be a problem if were were the other way around.  We also inquired about Cord blood.  She's collected many times and will do so for us.  She wanted to look into public storage as she had never heard of that, only private.  She also said that I am not to use bug spray, but she thinks castor oil would be fine-- just anything non-chemical.

My blood pressure was about the same, 136/82 and I gained 3 pounds, 175 to 178.  I have now gained 23 pounds in 6 months.  That means I should only gain about 7 more--- I believe I just may go over 30 pounds.  I am not going to stress about it since baby is really healthy, but I am going to try to walk more and eat more consciously.  I have read that the second trimester is where you gain all your weight and level off by the third trimester.  Some women even lose weight in the third trimester.  We'll see-- I just want to be healthy for this baby and keep her growing and healthy!:o)

To celebrate, Dave took me to Nick's Cafe on Reynolds and we split a 16oz ribeye, fries and salad.  It was soo good!  He sure does spoil me!  We came home, sat on the swing, talked, showered and then watched an episode of the Waltons.  I feel asleep.:)  I ended up waking up again many times during the night.  It think it is mainly due to my head cold.

PRAISE GOD! for giving us a healthy baby!!!  A healthy baby girl!!!!!!
