Dave met me at my doctors appointment today, Friday March 19 at 11:30a. We waited for almost an hour, I gave a urine sample and they took my weight-- I've gained four pounds so far. Starting weight- 155, today, 159.
I am really hoping to not gain rapidly and a ton of weight, so luckily I have been feeling much better during the day. I only feel exhausted and nauseous around early evening. I am planning on working out during my lunch break 2-3 times a week to keep the added weight at bay. I am still eating small snacks every couple hours and that is really helping. It just looks strange because I am eating all day long! I'm also still going to the bathroom, more than ever! Even a couple times during the night!
Anyway, back to the appointment. The nurse took my blood pressure and the top number was alittle high, 147/72 but the bottom was lower than usual. Hopefully it levels out by the next time and stays low! The nurse explained that we will hear the heartbeat today with the doppler and every appointment from here on out, but the dr will do it today, and she will do it from here on out.
Dr. Kanios came in and did an exam, but not a full exam since I just had a pap late January. She said that my uterus is in perfect position for a vaginal birth. I thought that was funny, but wonderful to hear! She also said even though the baby measured two days less on the ultrasound, she is keeping baby's due date at October 14! She went through some information with us about medicines, upcoming ultrasounds for MR, went over my test results-- all negative! and she also mentioned that I should get the H1N1 vaccine. We told her our concerns about vaccines, so she said it is my decision, but she has had two pregnant patients die at Toledo Hospital from complications from swine flu. I need to pray about this decision and I know God will give me the right answer. She also explained that I can deliver any way I want, meds or natural, on my head:) just as long as I trust her decision as a doctor when it comes to safety of me and the baby. Sounds great! Then she checked for the heartbeat. It seemed like she was searching for an hour! It wasn't, only about 5-8 minutes, but it seemend like forever. We were really nervous. She then said regardless of using the doppler or the ultrasound, I would leave here hearing our baby's heartbeat! I found that very reassuring and kind of her to do. Within a minute, we heard the heartbeat!! Praise God!! We were soooo happy!!
Then we scheduled our next ultrasound for March 29 at 3:00p and our next appointment (every four weeks) for April 16 at 8:15a. Dave was on call and had to get back home and I was on lunch break, so I had to get back to work. I was so relieved and happy!! It was wonderful having Dave there to hear the heartbeat and to be with me! He is such a wonderful man! Can't wait until we see our baby again at 11 weeks and then tell Mom, Dad and Brooke at 12 weeks-- April Fool's Day!
